I'm Emma,
I decided I wanted to be an art therapist when I was 14 years old and had to sit in deafening silence with my own social worker. I realised that I could not summon the words to speak about the trauma I had experienced and in the moments after those agonising sessions, art became my saviour.
After training to masters level in Art Therapy, I now support others to process their experiences, memories and losses. Art can be used to explore your sense of self and identity, explore any absences, contemplate your cultural heritage or family dynamics and what it might mean to be a human being finding your way in the world.
My Story
I've always been an artist - I did Art Sculpture and Multimedia Graphics at GCSE. I studied at The Cheshire School of Art, returning later to take A Levels. I'm a lifelong academic and arts researcher. I hold a First Class Honours Degree in Creative and Performing Arts - (Fine Art and Live Art Pathway with Music Therapy) . Masters Degrees in Contemporary Art and Art Psychotherapy and a Master of Philosophy in Curatorial Research.
I completed a Curatorial Traineeship with The Museums Libraries and Archives Council and Staffordshire Arts and Museums Service.
I have won Awards from The Passion For Freedom Arts Prize
The Arts and Humanities Research Council
and The institute For Performance Research at Manchester Metropolitan University.
I'm a member of (M)other Collective of Artist Parents.
I was a Arts Engagement Officer for a Dementia Service with The Carers Trust and a Founder Director of Visual Arts Cheshire.
I have 3 Children, a husband, Pet Fish (allergies in the household prevent much else!) and I am a Neurodiverse and Neuro-Affirmative Art Therapist.
My art therapy Practice works with One Education across Greater Manchester and with Private Clients in South Manchester and Cheshire.
